What exactly is social conscious?
According to Google, the term social conscious is defined as "a sense of responsibility or concern for the problems and injustices of society." Therefore, when an individual posts a selfie that they consider to be "social conscious", they are displaying the things within society that interest them, the things that they hold responsibility for, or even simply just anything that has an affect on their lives. To illustrate, if an individual were to be vegan because they care deeply about animals, they often post things related to vegan foods, restaurants, and recipes. Some of these individuals see eating animal products as a problem or injustice to society, and therefore tend to send these messages on social media when posting pictures of meals. In addition to posting selfies of what they eat, they may also post pictures at animal rights protests, PETA fundraisers, or anything else that gets their point across and spreads awareness. This is their way of reaching people around the world and hopefully having an impact on them. Many people even use their social media platforms to promote change and make the world a better place. However, social conscious becomes a grey area as we see how each individual has different values and beliefs, which also impact what they see as a problem and social injustice of society. These messages also influence people in different ways. For example, some people are greatly influenced by messages displayed online, while others may not even bat an eye.
